Good for University Students to Go in for Business

    It was reported in the press that some time ago a few second – and third – year university students in a provincial university managed to try their hand at business in order to get prepared for the future. They opened six small shops near their university. Their teachers and classmates held different opinions about this phenomenon. Some thought that the students’ business experience would help them adapt better to society after graduation, while others held a negative view, arguing that running shops might occupy too their time energy which should otherwise be devoted to their academic study.
    With the increasing productivity of economy, everybody and business are closely linked and the society of the 21st century is a society of economy. As far as I am concerned, it is beneficial for university to go in for business.
    Admittedly, going in for business will occupy some time and energy of the university students. But it does not mean it will greatly affect their study; on the contrary, doing business can improve their academic learning, especially for the students who are majoring in Business Studies, Sales and Marketing and Accounting. A boy who studies computer works in the computer business, and now his business is booming. “Running business is the most practical and effective way to consolidate the knowledge obtained in school, putting the principles and theories I learned into practice,” he said. What’s more important is that applying themselves to how to balance university students’ academic study and business is a good and necessary challenge for them.
    In addition, the part – timers can gain some experience from running business. Most of the university students enter college as soon as they finished middle school, so they lack experience in society. When graduating from university, they meet lots of difficulties in adjusting themselves to the social environment, while taking jobs is a good way for them to solve such problem. By doing business, they learn how to cooperate with different people and how to deal with different situations. And gradually they obtain a deeper understanding of the society.
    Also, going in for business can provide university students with some supplementary money. Nowadays the expenses of them are getting higher, having to spend more money on food, lodging and tuition; the income from business can help them to cover some of the expenses and to ease their parents’ burden. To some extent, to be self – independent first is to be independent from parents in economy, therefore, to most of the university students, the independence comes from financial gains obtained by themselves.
    From what is discussed above, it can be safe to come to the conclusion that with the increasing number of university enrollment, more and more students in business emerge, and through going in for business, university students begin to mature after they earn money with their hands.
