In the beginning, Brahma sprang from the cosmic golden egg and he then created good & evil and light & dark from his own person. Brahma then created ancestors and men.
The gods feared that men could become so powerful that they might challenge their reign, therefore, they asked Brahma how best to prevent this. His response was to create wanton women who "lusting for sensual pleasures, began to stir men up. Then the lord of gods, the lord, created anger as the assistant of desire, and all creatures, falling into the power of desire and anger, began to be attached to women" (Mahabharata in Hindu Myths, 36).
Originally Brahma had five heads but when he lusted after his daughter Sandhya an outraged Shiva cut off the head which had ogled the goddess (or burned it with his central eye).
Saraswati (also Sarasvati) is the Hindu goddess of learning, wisdom, music, and aesthetics.
Saraswati first appears in the Rigveda. In the Sanskrit and the epic Mahabharata, she becomes the goddess of language. It is said that she is the goddess of language and knowledge, and the creator of Sanskrit and Tiancheng alphabet.
In Hindu mythology, Saraswati is the wife of the great god Brahma. However, according to some traditions, she was first the wife of Vishnu.
Sarasvati is also worshipped as the goddess of learning in Jainism and by some Buddhist sects.
The goddess has her own festivals, notably the Saraswati Puja, held on the first day of spring. Saraswati is also worshipped along with other major goddesses in the pan-Indian celebration of Navaratri.
