The first time I came across the book "Metaphors We Live By" was when I was casually browsing through Xiaohongshu. However, at that time, I only took a cursory glance and didn't delve deeper into it. This semester, when I saw this book again in the recommended reading list, I knew I had to read it. Suddenly, a line came to my mind: "Love at first sight, deepening with time." Perhaps this is exactly what this kind of strange fate is about. When I decided to read this book, I first searched for information about the authors. George Lakoff and Mark Johnson have both made significant contributions in the field of linguistics, especially in cognitive linguistics. This book was the first to study metaphor from the perspective of language cognition. The book analyzes the essence, generation, structure, characteristics, and types of metaphor from a cognitive perspective. It explores the cognitive nature of metaphor, analyzes its internal structure, points out its systematicity and the consistent relationship between systems and within systems, and classifies metaphors. It also criticizes the insufficiency of the objective philosophy basis for metaphor analysis and points out the necessity and rationality of metaphor analysis based on empiricism.I believe that by reading this book, I will gain a lot. |
