In the classic reading course, I chose Neil Postman's 《Amusing Ourselves to Death》 as my selected book.
After the teacher provided the list of books for the classic reading course, I searched online to get a basic understanding of each book. Through my research, I learned that 《Amusing Ourselves to Death》 is a classic work published by Neil Postman in 1985. It explores how media forms influence our ways of thinking and societal culture. Postman points out that the rise of television culture has made information more entertaining. This shift not only changed how we receive information but also reshaped our thinking patterns. He argues that television, as an entertainment medium, packages all information in an entertaining way, leading the public to gradually lose the ability for deep thinking and rational judgment.
