The Olympic Games, which is held every four years, is a grand international multi-event sports festival participated by thousands of athletes from all over the world and cheered by billions of spectators in every part of the earth. And the spirit it embodies reflects the common values shared by all mankind, which I think can be boiled down to the following three letters, C,E,O, which is, of course, not the commonly recognized abbreviation of chief executive officer. Instead, the three letters stand for three words: confronting, endeavor and opportunity.
To give further explanation, I’d like to use some messages of sports fashion. Firstly, Reebok, I am what I am, which indicates the quality of confronting yourself, and only if you can face up to yourself, can you find out the weakness from your body and your mind and only if you can confront yourself, could you get a fulfilling life not only on the play ground but in your daily life.
Then let’s come to the second letter, E, that is, the quality of endeavor, which finds its expression in the advertisement for Nike “just do it” and it is a cognitive actualization of the athlete's “higher self” in his head and serves as a direction pointer that channels his energy into the creating of that “higher self”.
Finally comes the third letter O, which stands for opportunity, a kind of force that brings possibilities into realities. In correspondence with this quality is Adidas “impossible is nothing”. It is in the constant trying to seize the opportunities by generations of athletes that a record after another has been broken or created, showing the amazing potentiality of human beings.
The development of a corporation not only lies in its competitiveness and its endeavor to strive for success but also in the opportunities that would help to achieve its victory. Only by this, the “faster higher and stronger” Olympic spirit can be fully reflected in the sports ground as well as the arena of the business world. Only by this, the “faster higher and stronger” Olympic spirit can be deeply rooted in the vast land of the world as well as the heart of everyone on the earth.
Well, please allow me to end my speech by reciting a poem.
You're my adversary, But you're not my enemy.
Your will gives me strength; Your resistance steels me;
Your spirit ennobles me. Though I aim at defeating you,
Should I succeed, I will not humiliate you,
Instead I will honor you. For without you, I'm a lesser man. |
