The funny thing is, it's not so much that I chose the book as that the book chose me.
When it comes to the reason for choosing to read this book of metaphors that we live by, I am actually a little embarrassed, because this book is not my first choice to begin with, but because every book needs someone to read, and finally I am chosen in a draw. Because I didn't know the book at first, and only heard about it twice from other people. One time, in the basic translation class, Teacher Zhong mentioned this book when talking about translation and recommended us to read it. Another time, when Teacher Xu introduced these selected readings, she said that the book was related to linguistics and students who were interested in linguistics must read it. At that time, I was inwardly repelled, because I personally prefer to read stories, literary novels, and always do not want to get into contact with linguistics.
So at first, I was a little sad, but I quickly accepted the fact that maybe I had a fate with this book and it chose me just to let me know how nice it is.
However, after being chosen by this book, I took a look at this book for the first time. And the title of this book really attracts me. I don't understand why metaphor can be called what we live by, or I have never thought about it. I only think metaphor is a kind of literary rhetoric, which plays an embellishment role, and does not support our language world like a foundation. I think the author is exaggerating. It sounds like I'm biased against it, hahaha, maybe the book will be sad listening it.
Fortunately, to be honest, I'm really looking forward to this book as a gateway to a world I've never known before and change my mind. Good luck to me. |
