Reading Task: part one
Summary of the Content:
This part introduces the protagonist, Klara, an Artificial Friend (AF) designed to be a companion for children. The story is set in a near-future world where AFs are sold in stores, waiting to be chosen by families. Klara is an observant and highly intelligent AF who spends her days in the store, watching the outside world through the window and learning about human behavior. She forms a bond with a sickly girl named Josie, who eventually chooses Klara as her companion. The section explores Klara's perspective on human relationships, her longing to understand the world, and her unique ability to empathize with humans.
Evaluation:
Writing Style: The story is told from Klara’s perspective, which is both innocent and perceptive. It let me feel like a young girl is telling what she has seen, felt and her understanding about the world.
Reflection:
There are some thought provoking points of me in this section
1.Gender issues:When robots also have gender awareness, male AI will still quickly suppress the speech and emotions of the opposite sex, as well as display a sense of entitlement to limited resources.
2.No matter for AF or people,We all need a sense of belonging.
3.Probably because the novel of Kazuo Ishiguro as an allegorical fairy tale, I always feel that AF is a reference to human beings. "Entering the window" is like a once-and-for-all fantasy or an expectation that our efforts can change our fate at one stroke. But even when we do reach these shining places we will find that the road ahead is long and no more difficult than before. Perhaps, as Schopenhauer said, life is a hot runway covered with fuel. We run as hard as we can toward a few cool places in the middle, but we can only pause there for a moment when we can run no more It will fall down and become someone else's fuel
