Summary of the Content:
Chapter III "Redundant Twins" focuses on a common issue in Chinese - English translation: the use of redundant pairs of words. The authors define redundant twins as two words that are very close in meaning and are used together unnecessarily in a sentence.
They provide numerous examples, such as "basic essentials" (where "essentials" are by nature basic), and "each and every" (as "each" and "every" have a similar meaning). For each example, they show the incorrect Chinglish expression and then offer the corrected, more concise English version.
The chapter also analyzes the reasons behind this phenomenon. Chinese has a rich tradition of using parallelism and paired expressions for emphasis, which often leads Chinese learners of English to transfer this habit into English, resulting in redundant twins.

Evaluation:
Theme: The theme is highly relevant to the study of Chinese - English translation. By highlighting the problem of redundant twins, it helps us to improve the accuracy and fluency of our English expressions, make our translation more natural and authentic.

Reflection:
For me, this chapter serves as a reminder to be more critical of my own English writing and speaking. I often unconsciously use redundant expressions, and now I realize that this can make my English less precise and more difficult to understand. For example, in my previous writing, I might have written "join together" instead of just "join". I will pay more attention to the meaning of each word and avoid using redundant pairs. And i also realized that in cross - cultural communication, using correct English is crucial. Redundant twins can create misunderstandings or make the communication less efficient. For instance, in business negotiations or academic exchanges, if we use Chinglish expressions with redundant twins, it may give the impression that we are not proficient in English, and it may affect the outcome of the communication. So, being aware of this issue can help me communicate more effectively with English
speakers.
