Reading Task: Chapter 3 Redundant Twins

Summary of the Content: In Chinglish, there are several distinguishing characteristics. One of these characteristics is the constant use of two words close in meaning that one would do. This chapter introduces the definition of redundant twins, recognizing and eliminating redundancies, categories of redundant twins and proliferation of redundancies. Apart from that it tells about the importance of judgment and redundant twins in native English.

Evaluation: The writing style of this chapter is still informative and much clear. The writer uses both examples and illustrations, which makes the chapter easy for us to understand. The writer’s explanations are quite detailed so that we can get a complete concept of redundant twins in Chinglish and correct them in daily writing. And the logic of this chapter is clear as well. From recognizing redundancies to eliminating these mistakes. The writer also introduces redundant twins in native English, which can help us make a comparison between redundant twins in English and in Chinglish.

Reflection: After reading this chapter, I have a concept of redundant twins in Chinglish. Besides, judgment is still important for us during writing period. In the daily writing, these mistakes commonly appear in my articles such as encourage and promote. I wrongly thought that use two words close in meaning can enhance the tone before I reading this chapter. This chapter reminds me of paying more attention on these redundant twins. As a English major student, having a complete writing skill is necessary for me. Getting rid of the influence of our mother tone and updating our writing competence are urgent tasks.
