Where do we go from here?

40 years ago, Martin Luther King advocated “where do we go from here” for American citizens. Today, I want to talk about “where do we go from here” as junior students.
Time passes like a drop of water disappearing into the boundless ocean, soundless, traceless. Taking stock silently, more than 1000 days have already slide away from us. But what traces have we left behind? When looking back, can we always put satisfied smiles on our faces without regret? I am afraid few of us can.
After having tasted the novelty as freshmen and led a degenerative life in the second year, now, we come to the crisis of our college life. Many of us get puzzled. Where should we go? The overwhelming majority of us are filled with regret, looking ourselves getting far and far away from our original plan. Then the performances of burying our faces in the hands and heaving a deep sign are repeated again and again. This is where we stand.
     Then, where do we go?
First, I must remind you of a universal knowledge that when we shed tears when we miss the sun, then we will miss the beautiful stars as well. That is to say, it is never too late to change.
To those who live idly, the first thing is to find the direction or to reorganize the life plan according to our present situation. Ask ourselves what kind of job we would like to do? What kind of jobs we are qualified to do? Because life without an aim is like sailing without a compass.
Then, do remember there is no shortcut in study. Down-to-earth work maybe is the best way to make us the ideal person in our minds. During this process, pay attention to three aspects: first, solidify our basic knowledge. Knowledge is weightless, a treasure we can always carry easily; second, lay particular emphasis on the skills concerning the professions we are going to enter. If you want to enter the business circle, then the related experiences are indispensable. Likewise, if you are interested in being a civil servant, then the skills to deal with different people must be strengthened. And the last one, prepare ourselves to grasp the opportunities at any time, for they only knock but once.
Finally comes to the attitude towards frustration. Sometimes, things happen to us that may seem horrible, painful and unfair, but in reflection we will find that without overcoming those obstacles, we would never realize our potential. Without those obstacles, life would be like a smoothly paved flat road leading to nowhere.
So my dear friends, let us make every day count. Appreciate every moment and take from those moments everything we can. Because yesterday is history, tomorrow is mystery, and only today can be held tightly in our hands.
