All-out Reconsturction Efforts in Wenchuan Three Years Later

WENCHUAN, Sichuan, April 18 (Xinhua) -- All reconstruction projects in southwest China' s Sichuan Province, which was hard hit by a devastating earthquake in 2008, has always been proceeded on.

The 2008 Sichuan earthquake that measured at 8.0 Ms occurred at 14:28:01.42 on May 12, 2008 in Southwest China's Sichuan province. It is also known as the Wenchuan earthquake after the location of the earthquake's epicenter, Wenchuan County in Sichuan province. The quake left more than 80,000 people dead or missing.  


Reconstruction in quake zone still top priority
Wu, chairman of the National People's Congress Standing Committee, made the remarks,"Restoration and reconstruction in the quake zone must continue to be on top of Sichuan's economic and social development agenda."

Visiting rebuilt communities, schools and factories, Wu told local authorities to ensure the quality and safety of reconstruction projects and stressed the supervision of reconstruction funds.

He also said governments in the quake-hit areas should work closely with development partner provinces and cities, and accelerate industrial upgrading.


Today, when people once again place their fixation on this near-destroyed place, what they see is a homeland reborn full of vitality for the victims. The locals emerging from this disaster have never felt so strongly that the best way for them to remember their lost beloved is to cheer up, to be strong, to  fight on and to live a happy life.
