Jane Austen: The Angel of Love

Unlike other girls who marry for fortune at her time, Jane sincerely believes in true love. Nothing destroys her spirit, even poverty. Jane refused the proposal of Mr. Wisley, who was a modest gentleman with large property. She would rather live a poor life alone than marry a man she doesn’t love. Her mother complained,“Affection is desirable. Money is absolutely indispensable.” When the two are incompatible, Jane chooses the former without hesitation.


Luckily, she found her true love –Tom Lefroy. They appreciated and understood each other. However, Jane’s social status and Tom’s dependence upon his uncle were the stumbling blocks. They loved each other so much that they decide to elope. But later Jane knew that their elopement would be a disaster for Tom’s family, and she said, “ If love destroys your family, it will destroy itself.” In her mind there is something beyond love. She knows that their happiness can’t be established upon other’s misfortunes. Because of their sacrifice, their love becomes immortal. Jane can’t behold her love in reality, so there is always a happy ending in her novels where protagonists can be together after experiencing lots of tribulations. She compensates her regrets in her writing.  
   
     “If a woman happens to have a particular superiority, for example, a profound mind, it is best kept a profound secret.” Jane does have such a mind, so she decides to marry only for true love; so she sacrifices her love for responsibility; so she remains single all her life. These seem to be her misfortunes, but actually they are not. It is admirable that she dares to seek for true love and protect it. Her inner world is rich though she can’t be together with her lover. What’s more, her name Jane Austen has been forever embedded in the history of English literatrure.
