Part Three: The Gloom of Illness and the Glimmer of Hope
In the third part, Josie's condition continues to deteriorate, with her physical state growing worse by the day, like a flickering candle in the wind, on the verge of being snuffed out. Rick, Josie's closest friend, visits her home frequently, offering her companionship and solace. They play bubble - blowing games together, and during those brief moments of joy, Josie's face occasionally lights up with a long - lost smile. However, behind that smile lies the unbearable pain of her illness and her profound sense of confusion about the future.

Clara is well aware of the severity of Josie's condition. She firmly believes in her heart that only by allowing the sun to shine upon herself can she harness the sun's power to heal Josie. To this end, she earnestly pleads with Rick to accompany her to McBain's Barn. Clara is convinced that within the barn, the sun will respond to her prayers in some mysterious way. On the journey to the barn, Clara's heart is filled with the hope that Josie's condition will improve. Every step she takes is filled with utmost piety. Though Rick has doubts about Clara's actions, out of his concern for Josie, he chooses to stay by her side.

Meanwhile, Rick's mother asks Clara to tutor Rick in his studies, hoping that he can gain admission to Atlas Brooking University. Deep down, Rick longs to stay by his mother's side all the time. However, the pressures of reality and the uncertainties of the future plunge him into a deep state of conflict and struggle. On one hand, he has to meet his mother's academic expectations; on the other hand, he finds it hard to part with the profound friendship he shares with Josie. He wavers between his dreams and the harsh realities of life.

Part Four: The Entanglement of Human Nature and the Dawn of Faith
In the fourth part, Josie's mother takes Clara to meet Mr. Capaldi. It turns out that having experienced the heart - wrenching loss of her older daughter, Josie's mother is now filled with fear and despair as she faces the critical illness and impending death of Josie. She sees Clara as the hope for continuing Josie's life. She expects Clara to imitate Josie and even, to some extent, "become" Josie, so as to fill the void in her heart left by the loss of her daughter.

Upon learning of this idea, Clara is caught in a painful inner struggle. She is well aware of her identity and mission as an artificial intelligence robot, and she also understands the self - centeredness and helplessness behind Josie's mother's proposal. However, Clara longs even more for Josie to truly recover her health, rather than having her own existence be a mere replication and substitute for a so - called "life". She refuses to be treated as Josie's substitute, always holding fast to her pure and genuine feelings for Josie.

In order to please the sun and bring about the miracle of Josie's recovery, Clara and Josie's father plan to destroy the Kurtin machine together. Clara does not hesitate to sacrifice an important fluid within her body - PEG9 solution, all in an effort to eliminate the source of pollution and allow the sun's rays to shine upon the earth unobstructed. In Clara's mind, the sun is a symbol of hope and salvation. She firmly believes that as long as she makes enough efforts, the sun will surely answer her prayers and enable Josie to regain her vitality. This plot vividly showcases Clara's selfless love for Josie and also reveals to readers how, in the face of complex human nature and difficult choices, she always adheres to the kindness and faith within her heart.
