On May 12th, a huge earthquake fell upon Wenchuan County in Sichuan Province. As it has caused a great deal of property loss and countless casualties so that the whole nation is involved in the combating the calamity. The PLA soldiers were dispatched to the quake-stricken areas, the volunteers were called on to tend to the victims, both the premier and the president arrived to conduct the rescue practice and console the inflicted people, and the whole society donated a lot of money, clothes, food and other necessities. All these kind actions have won the applauds of the public except the donations from the celebrities and well-known companies.
  In such critical time when the whole country deals with the catastrophe, no one should escapes from making their contribution to it without exception for these celebrities and companies. First, they should carry out their social responsibility. All the Individuals, organizations, companies are social units, among which a harmonious relationship should be maintained. Whichever of them is in difficulty, the others are obliged to bail it out. And only by this can our society advance in a steady and balanced way. Second, they must act on social conscience. As is known, the astronomical volumes of income of these celebrities and companies have their roots in the public who pay for their products and service. As part of the public are now afflicted with the earthquake, they should care about the minor unfortunate rather than turning against them or looking on. Third the morality and the humanism drive them to do so. The ideas of sympathizing with and giving a hand to the unlucky have long been instilled into their minds and should become a human instinct. Therefore, they can not turn a blind eye to the numerous people suffering from the woe. Fourth, as famed companies and individuals, they are supposed to serve as modal in society for their behaviors exert a tremendous influence on all the social members. Now it is the time for them to behave appropriately. Last but not least, as our country is painstakingly making its way to a harmonious society, there is no excuse for anyone to shrink away from the calamity.
  However, despite the fact that many celebrities and the companies have donated much money, rather than being acclaimed, some of them are severely denounced, for the simple reason that the republic that they have not donated enough according to their high income. Among them, super star Andy Lau and basketball player Yao Ming receive most criticism, for they have donated a seemingly small amount of money against their huge gains. Any contribution, no matter small or big, reflects the kindness of people and should be applauded. Besides, many foreign companies that run their business in china are also reproached, for they are regarded as being unconscious. However, it is quite irrational to criticize them simply due to this. Donation is a completely voluntary; and no one can force others to do so.
  It is quite comforting that the whole country focuses on the damaging effect of the earthquake and goes to great length to wrestle with it. All the social entities involved in it should be highly praised, but those devoted to criticizing other should be seriously condemned. They’d better try to find another better outlet for their care about the woe.
