Comedy, as a species of film that aims at relaxing people by its funny and humorous plot, also reveals its
connotation in a sense. Click is the very drama that hosts the dual characteristics which arouses my interest to
give a comment on it.
Click tells the story of Newman (leading character), an overworked architect so wrapped up in his job that
his families are ignored by him. He never ceases his pace to pursuing high position and pay. Once he can’t find
the remote control when he watching TV, so he wants to find a universal remote control. He enters a
supermarket where he meets an eccentric inventor whom gives a one-of-a-kind universal remote control to him
for free and says it is nonreturnable. Then he takes it to home finding it can controls the universe, interprets his
wishes, learning to anticipate them. He uses it to alter time and reality. So stronger that he wants to be
promoted, he presses the remote to come forward 3 months earlier without experiencing what happened. One
his boss tells him he might be CEO someday, he wind up being fast-forwarded 10 years where he finds drastic
changes have happened in his life—his wife divorced him and married others, he becomes grossly overweight
for eating too much instant food, his son is as fatter as him . Surely this is not satisfied with him and he presses
the remote for coming forward another long time—he is lying in the hospital for his cancel, and finally he
understands the meaning of life…Suddenly there is a white flash, Newman wakes up back on the bed in the
supermarket. It wasall just a dream, he rushes to his families and tells them he loves them so much…
The film is full of imagination, it is new and original to relate the click to the whole story. In reality, no one else
would pay attention to a click except to control the electrical equipment. As funny and humorous as comedy it is,
the plot and dialogue in this movie are all interesting and attractive. In order to reveal the function of this universal
remote, scenes and figures are added to embellish the whole story, make it more vivid and lively, moreover, it
becomes close to life. Just as the movie has mentioned, we wish we had a life-changing remote control to
silence the barking dog when we need quiet, to reopen the blocked traffic when we driving to work, to freeze-
frame the harsh boss, to inquire the client’s intentions, to quiet down a quarrel between families, to recover from
disease…Actually, these are all the deeds we want to avoid, or at least, to be shortened. So we can see in this
quick-fixed society, Newman is a typical example among the people. He loves his family and is responsible to
them, so he works hard. The neighbor’s kid says his father’s car has a new stereo to him and always shows up
before his children, his wife is amazed in a handbag which is expensive…all of these trifles inspire him to
striving for a better position and pay. Inevitable, he neglects his wife, though beautiful and virtuous as she is,
even worse, he hurts his children when he is angry, this upsets his families deeply. His old parents want to be
invited to have a supper with them, but he feels boring to talk with them and want to escape…These are the true
portrayals of people’s life and the living style they pursued. When he is so wrapped up in the “benefit” of the
remote control, he missed too much of his life, his wife left him and chooses another man, his children grow up
without knowing when and how they suddenly become adults, and the most touching thing which regrets him
most is the death of his old father. So theses backwards which he missed wake him up, but it’s too late
because he is going to die, he says “family comes first” as his last words. This is the upsurge of the whole story
and saddened people so much, this heart-warming part is commendable in comedy. But what surprises us is
after a white flash, Newman wakes up from the bed of supermarket, it was all just a dream, and the audiences
are relieved and gratified from the movie.
After my introduction of this the film Click, hope you will watch it someday! |
