Edna's ending is tragic. She was the one who realized her true self. Although there are many realistic constraints and social pressure, but she at least did not give in. Even if she ends up in the eternal sea, there, she at least feels free. She was completely her own, following her own heart. She was truly free. Although she could have given up her life for the sake of her child, she did not lose herself. This is the sense of being a human being that should have been there in the first place. Modern women are becoming more and more independent and have a stronger sense of self-awareness. However, society demands more and more from them, and they need more and more. What they need is not only material but also emotional attention.
