Part One: Unnecessary Words

It is a very common mistake, which arises due to differences in language structures, logical thinking, and cultural habits between Chinese and English. In my opinion, the reason of it may includes literal translation-induced redundancy due to language structure differences, misuse or overcompensation of grammatical rules, unfamiliarity with idiomatic English expressions, and the influence of native language thinking on logic. The redundancy in Chinglish is essentially a phenomenon of language transfer. We can learn more idiomatic English expressions by targeted training and cross-cultural understanding.

This is particularly common among students. To improve, firstly, we must be aware of the differences in language structures between Chinese and English, become familiar with English grammatical structures, learn idiomatic English expressions. And more importantly, we should cultivate English thinking and reduce the influence of native language thinking on logic. What’s more, revision is a good way to improve this situation. After writing, we need to review the draft and consciously make further improvements.
