Summary of the Content:
After reading it, I have gained a lot. It has given me a new understanding of Chinglish and greatly inspired me in my English learning and translation.
In English writing and translation, conciseness is key. However, Chinglish often appears cumbersome due to unnecessary words. For example, in "to accelerate the pace of economic reform", "the pace of" is completely redundant, and "accelerate economic reform" is more concise and straightforward. These unnecessary words not only make sentences longer but also interfere with the communication of information. This makes me realize that in future studies and practices, I need to pay special attention to and avoid such problems.
Unnecessary nouns and verbs are common in Chinglish. Some nouns are redundant because their meanings are already covered by other words. For instance, "harvests" are inherently related to agriculture, so "in agriculture" is redundant information. There are also some verbs, such as those in phrases formed with "make", "have", etc., which often have no practical meaning and can be replaced by more concise verbs. This makes me understand that when expressing ideas, we should select words precisely and use the fewest words to convey the most accurate meaning.
Evaluation:
In addition, this chapter also reminds me that when revising Chinglish, we need to carefully judge whether a word is unnecessary and not delete it blindly. Some words that seem redundant may be meaningful in a specific context. For example, "make great efforts to" can emphasize the arduousness of a task in certain situations and should be retained. This makes me understand that the use of language should be flexible and considered in combination with the specific context.
Reflection:
In conclusion, this chapter has pointed out the direction for my English learning and translation. I will pay more attention to the conciseness of language in future studies, be more mindful of word usage, improve my English expression and translation skills, and avoid problems caused by Chinglish.I will keep on learning and avoid these chinglish errors. |
