The rise of social media, short video platforms, and other new media has further intensified the trend of information becoming more entertaining. We live in a world surrounded by algorithm-driven recommendations and instant gratification, where fragmented and entertaining information has become the norm. The "information cocoon" has trapped everyone. Postman's prediction seems to be coming true: we are becoming a species that is amusing itself to death.
I chose 《Amusing Ourselves to Death》because of my confusion and reflections on contemporary social phenomena. Every day, we are surrounded by a flood of information, from social media to short video platforms, from trending topics to updates in our social circles. Information constantly bombards our senses in an entertaining form. However, this flood of information does not lead to real intellectual growth; instead, it traps us in a superficial way of thinking.
