After reading "The Medium Is the Metaphor" and "Media as Epistemology," I'm deeply impressed by Neil Postman's insightful ideas. In the first chapter, Postman argues that different media, like the printing press and television, act as metaphors shaping our culture. The shift from the Age of Typography to the Age of Television has greatly changed public discourse. In the second chapter, he emphasizes that media influence our understanding of truth. For example, in a print - based culture, truth is closely related to the written word, while in a television - based culture, it's more about entertainment. These chapters make me realize how media affects our lives and thoughts. We should be more aware of the biases of different media and think critically about the information we receive. |
